1.Project Background
Nice, France is a coastal tourist area with heavy recreational water activities. To monitor seawater quality, detect pollution events, and support safety, a KWS-800 multi-parameter water quality sensor was installed on a buoy for real-time monitoring.

2.Monitoring Parameters
- Temperature: seasonal and diurnal variations
- Oil in Water: detect ship fuel or leakage
- Conductivity & Salinity: reflect seawater mixing
- Dissolved Oxygen: monitor ecological health
- Chlorophyll: indicate phytoplankton growth and nutrient levels
- pH: seawater acid-base balance
- Turbidity: suspended solids and sediment
3.Deployment Conditions
- Water depth: 2–5 m nearshore
- Subject to tides, boating, and wave action
- Sensor must resist corrosion and operate long-term
- Solar panels provide independent power
- Wireless DTU uploads data to cloud platform in real-time

4.Sensor Configuration
- Model: KWS-800 multi-parameter sensor
- Parameters: Temperature, Oil in Water, Conductivity, Salinity, DO, Chlorophyll, pH, Turbidity
- Installation: buoy-mounted, probe submerged in seawater
- Output: RS485, data uploaded via DTU
- Housing: titanium alloy, corrosion-resistant

5.Operational Data
| Parameter | Average | Max | Notes |
| Temperature | 22.8 ℃ | 26.5 ℃ | Day/night & tidal variation |
| Oil in Water | <0.06 mg/L | 0.11 mg/L | Occasional boat activity |
| Conductivity | 51.8 mS/cm | 54.7 mS/cm | Water mixing variation |
| Salinity | 33.3 PSU | 34.0 PSU | Slightly above average |
| DO | 7.0 mg/L | 8.3 mg/L | High during biological activity |
| Chlorophyll | 2.6 μg/L | 4.0 μg/L | Light eutrophication |
| pH | 8.0 | 8.3 | Slightly alkaline |
| Turbidity | 1.3 NTU | 2.4 NTU | Stirred by activities |
- Real-time monitoring supports environmental assessment, pollution alerts, and visitor safety
- Stable operation, anomalies immediately reported via cloud platform
6.Project Summary
The multi-parameter water quality sensor buoy in Nice delivers long-term, real-time seawater monitoring. Its titanium alloy housing, solar power supply, and wireless DTU cloud upload ensure stable performance and provide reliable data for water quality management, research, and recreational safety.
